The article is devoted to the problem of developing digital literacy of students in the context of the development of the digital economy. Currently, employers are in demand for competent and qualified specialists who are capable of performing job duties and are ready to take responsibility for solving professional problems. The activities of higher educational institutions should be carried out taking into account current trends in economic development. In this case, special importance should be attached to the comprehensive informatization of the educational process, aimed at developing the skills of independently acquiring knowledge using digital technologies. In this context, it is appropriate to use information and communication technologies when organizing the educational process to develop the digital competencies necessary for a future specialist for successful production activities and safe use of the digital environment. The authors made a scientific review of the concepts, revealing the content of the scientific category “digital literacy”. The importance of developing digital competencies has been proven and beyond doubt by concrete facts, since digital literacy presupposes mastering the skills of searching, analyzing, and critically understanding the information used; competent use of digital educational platforms, network technologies in compliance with the basics of security in the digital environment. In addition, when designing educational programs, preparing methodological support, choosing specific means and methods of interaction with students, teachers need to be guided by the imperatives of informatization of the learning process, which will improve the quality of preparing graduates for effective professional activities. At the same time, it is important to be able to determine priorities and take a more balanced approach to the process of self-control, and to teach students responsible acquisition of knowledge. The article presents the results of a survey of students at Tyumen Industrial University, aimed at identifying the features and problems of developing digital competencies in the process of their education. The results of the study can become an important methodological tool in increasing the level of digital literacy of students and developing methods for the competent and safe use of digital content.
