The success of schooling and the further destiny of the child. Phonemic perception is the process of selecting the right sound from a word, the ability to differentiate different sounds. The study involved the diagnosis of mental retardation. In the corrective work on the formation of phonemic perception, we are aware of the purposeful impact on the activation and development of a number of mental processes (perception, memory, imagination, thinking). The work was conducted on individual and subgroup classes. At the preparatory stage, only 15 sessions were conducted. At the main stage, 20 sessions were held. The final stage included 10 lessons. Based on the data obtained in the course of the experimental work, recommendations were formulated for the teachers of the institution for the development of phonemic perception in children with mental retardation.
