The authors of the work believe that it is important not only to legally proclaim gender parity and equality, but also to ensure the practical implementation of the opportunity for women and girls to participate on equal terms with men in political, economic and social processes. The level of development of the labor market, guaranteed access to higher education for everyone, and personnel policies of government bodies are changing ideas about the position of women in society. However, the combination of labor, family, and material aspects continue to actively influence the perception of a woman’s gender role and her place in social processes and institutions. Intrenched customs and traditions in the sphere of division of labor responsibilities, the financial difference in wages between men and women, and the “underrepresentation” of women in politics continue to exist as a social phenomenon. The modern legal and social policy of the Russian state demonstrates an anti-discrimination nature against women. However, overcoming gender stereotypes and developing effective mechanisms for overcoming them is the most important step in realizing women’s rights to participate in political life, professional self-determination, and labor activity.
