The article addresses the development of students’ readiness to produce scientific-style texts as a specific facet of their overall readiness for professional activities. A three-component model of readiness is proposed, developed through a synthesis of various approaches to the general concept of readiness outlined in Russian scientific literature. The paper exemplifies how this model can be filled with specific content through the example of teaching students at Petrozavodsk State University how to write research articles based on the results of their own research and prepare them for publication. The concept of «readiness for performance» is clarified, primarily through its differentiation from related categories such as «ability to perform», «preparedness» and «overall professional readiness». The model describes individual components – motives, knowledge, and skills – within the motivational, cognitive, and operational dimensions that constitute the model of readiness for professional activities. Furthermore, it is suggested that this readiness framework can be employed to plan instructional strategies for academic writing and to establish criteria for evaluating learning outcomes. The study concludes that the overall model of readiness for professional performance can serve as an effective pedagogical tool, adaptable to various educational goals and conditions, as well as the individual needs and characteristics of students.
