Formation and development of regional economic systems

The article considers the key aspects and features of the development of location theory. The study is aimed at systematizing and generalizing the basic theoretical concepts of spatial economics and state regulation of regional economic development. We have considered modern scientific approaches to the interpretation of the concept of spatial economics, and the key trends of spatial development of the economy from a theoretical and practical perspective. The study is based on a systematic approach and uses general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, abstraction and generalization, as well as elements of scenario analysis. As a result, we have proposed scenarios for modernizing the economic space of Russian regions, identified the opportunities and obstacles for their implementation in the conditions of modern Russia. It is shown that there are two main trends (scenarios) in modernization of the economic space: traditional and innovative development, and formation of regional systems becomes the main idea of restructuring the economic space.
