Forming scientific notions in new areas (as exemplified in nanotechnology texts)

The article studies the problem of forming scientific notions in new areas. The author considers this problem to be a complex one consisting of several stages. The topicality of this issue consists in its connection with a classical cognitive problem of the relationship between language and mind. A special emphasis is given to studying the formation of notions as this process is linked to knowledge communication. Texts from the nanotechnology field were analyzed. The analysis intended to identify linguistic means representing different stages of notions formation. Having applied conceptual schemes to empirical data, the author came to the conclusion that different stages of notion formation are represented by different linguistic means.
