The article provides a brief overview of articles devoted to Japan in selected periodicals of the Russian Empire in 1815-1904. First of all, the analysis is devoted to “Notes of the Fleet Captain Golovnin about his adventures in captivity among the Japanese”, partially published in 1815 in the journal “Son of the Fatherland”, then published as a separate book, as well as the article of St. Equal-to-the-Apostles Nicholas of Japan “Japan and Russia”, published in 1879 on the pages of the journal “Ancient and New Russia”. Then the discussion of the first years of the 20th century is briefly covered about the “yellow threat” on the pages of the “Siberian Herald”.
