The human-nature relationship is a topical issue of modern nature management. The knowledge accumulated by ancestors is the basis for the ecological thinking of subsequent generations. There is not a single nation in the world that does not have its own system of ecological traditions, through which relations with the surrounding world are regulated. However, the interest in nature-study is noticeably decreasing among today’s youth. The authors suggest one of the possible solutions to this problem. The paper describes the experience of forming ornithological knowledge of primary school children during ornithological excursions. The pedagogical conditions that increase the efficiency of this process are determined. The integration of Buryat folklore about nature into the process of natural science training of primary school children is considered as the main pedagogical condition for experimental work.
