Introduction. Comprehension of the concept of patriotism as a quality of personality is relevant and requires theoretical analysis. The development of patriotism as a personal quality is to be considered in the form of structural unit in the context of ontogenetic approach. The purpose is to determine the structural elements of patriotism as a personal quality in the context of ontogenetic approach. Materials, Results and Discussion. The process of forming patriotism as a personal quality is considered in the format of a four-component model of gradual development. At the first stage in the period of preschool age, the emotional component associated with the feeling of love for the Motherland is established. The next component will be the level of patriotic consciousness characterized by acquiring the historical and cultural heritage of their country. This level takes place mainly in the period of junior and middle school age. At the value stage there is an assessment of the accumulated experience of the two previous stages, the formation of a worldview position, which defines patriotism as the core principle of personal development. In accordance with the age specifics of personality development, the value stage is peculiar to the senior school age. The last stage of patriotism formation (the period of adolescence (16-21 years)) is the activity stage, where patriotic beliefs and values are realized through various cultural and social practices.
