The article is devoted to the formation and development of patriotism among the younger generation in the Soviet Union in the second half of the 50s - early 60s of the last century. The functioning and activity of the system of preschool, basic and additional education is considered from the standpoint of the implementation of the social order of society and the state in the field of patriotic education of the younger generation. The vector of development of patriotic work is shown in the light of the entry into force of the updated federal state educational standards of the new generation. Patriotism is considered in the work as the basic national value of a modern citizen of the Russian Federation, as well as a spiritual and cultural phenomenon that largely determined the vector of development of our state at all stages of development. The prerequisites for changes in educational guidelines in our country during the period under review are revealed. Both subjective and objective reasons for the transformations carried out are highlighted. The normative legal acts regulating the educational activities of educational organizations from preschool to higher professional are analyzed. The process of transformation and modernization of patriotic work at all levels of education and upbringing of children and adolescents of the USSR at the turn of the 50s - 60s of the XX century is considered in detail. Attention is paid to the aspects of training students of full-time and part-time departments of pedagogical universities of the Soviet Union, as well as to the issues of retraining of pedagogical personnel in the conditions of changing the paradigm of education.
