Formation of written communicative competence in the format of distance learning of the English language

The concepts of “letter”, “written speech”, “written communicative competence” are considered, and their working definitions are given. Written communicative competence is defined as the readiness to use foreign-language writing to solve various problems, as the ability to successfully perform foreign-language written speech activities. The requests, goals and objectives of mastering different categories of written speech by students are outlined. Based on the results of the analysis of scientific literature and the practice of implementing distance learning, the possibilities of this format for the formation and development of written communicative competence are presented, the choice of cases as the optimal way of presenting the content of courses, options for its distribution among training modules, requirements for students and the teacher are substantiated. The advantages and disadvantages of the proposed innovation are revealed. A conclusion is made about the prospects for the mass use of distance learning of the English language, aimed at the formation and development of written communicative competence, among a wide range of students.
