Organization of effective civic education becomes one of topical aims of contemporary education. Personal wish to serve community becomes more and more necessary for civil society. The author of the article analyses a system of voluntary students’ activities in North Carolina State University. It is aimed at encouraging students to voluntary participation in community activities. Serving community is a part of personal leadership. Leadership is one of the main features of contemporary specialist. Academic and non-academic spheres of university education should join their efforts in leadership development.
