Introduction. The mandatory competences necessary for a law enforcement officer, based on the use of information technology, are analyzed. The relevance lies in the development of a methodology for guided self-study in computer science, promoting the development of competences of a law enforcement officer, implemented on the basis of a model of guided self-study.
