Social control over childbearing is a pressing and quite complex research issue. On one hand, it pertains to the private and intimate sphere of relationships between men and women; on the other hand, it affects the interests of societal reproduction as a whole and the functioning of the social institution of the family. The article elucidates that the formation of public control over childbearing has taken place in the context of social development and scientific and technological progress, although in its early stages it was associated with prejudices, superstitions, etc. Additionally, it is noted that the reproductive ideologeme, as the content of a system of views on childbearing, was shaped by various factors, including political (the development of feminism, the manifestation of the consequences of wars, political and financial crises, etc.), economic (the spread of market ideas regarding the usefulness of children and the achievement of personal career success), cultural traditions, norms, values, and customs.
