The purpose of the article is to consider the role of the formation of communicative competencies in adolescents as a condition for the development of positive motivation in the study of a foreign language, the presentation of the author's model. Based on the results of the study, a conclusion was made about the effectiveness of the application of the learning model developed and tested by the author, based on the principles of the problematic approach. A set of tasks aimed at the development of communicative competencies is proposed, which determines the formation of positive motivation of students in foreign language classes. This complex can be used in the work of teachers of secondary schools.
