The relevance of research devoted to the search for ways to develop the ability of students of music and pedagogical universities to accurately convey the stylistic features of works with a complex musical language is substantiated. A methodology for familiarizing students from China with the specifics of the stylistic dialogue between the works of Baroque composers (I.S. Bach, G.F. Handel) and modern Russian composers (D.D. Shostakovich, I.F. Stravinsky, R.R. Shchedrin) is presented. The concept of “stylistic dialogue” in music is disclosed. Approaches to organizing the actualization of students’ ideas about the stylistic features of the works of Baroque composers and the content of this work are highlighted. Examples of students’ actions to identify similarities and differences in the musical style of piano works by I.S. Bach, G.F. Handel and modern music are shown; self-analysis of the difficulties of conveying musical style when performing works by Russian composers is provided. An algorithm for working on a piece based on the proposed methodology is described.
