In the article idea-semantic, conflict-generative, character-formative functions of architecture in Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead are investigated. The appearance, philosophy and buildings of the fictive architects Peter Keating and Howard Roark are opposed. Roark's innovation originated from his master Henry Cameron and Louis Sullivan's American Modern.
