This article is a review of the monograph by V. K. Shokhin, “Philosophical Theology: Variations, Moments, Impromptus,” published in 2022 by the St. Petersburg Theological Academy Publishing House in the series “Theology: History and Modernity.” The article discusses the significance of methodology in theology and the issue of the relationship between theological disciplines. It describes the author’s perspective on the problem of justifying the existence of God and proposes a classification of arguments for the existence of God. The article suggests exploring the issue of atheism in historical and contemporary contexts. It raises the question of whether philosophical theology can be considered a practical discipline. It emphasizes that the author of the monograph highlights the need for further intellectual work in the development of contemporary theological science and recognizes V. K. Shokhin’s role in addressing this task. The scientific material discussed in the article has an apologetic character, aiming to both assert the principles underlying theism and contribute to the development of theological thought in interpreting contemporary reality at the level of philosophical theology.
