Functional activity of alveolar macrophages in alcoholic and autoimmune brain lesion

In this work the functional activity of alveolar macrophages was investigated in alcoholic and autoimmine brain lesion. Absorbing cell activity was assessed by calculation of phagocytic index, phagocytic rate and phagocytosis efficiency. Increase of phagocytes amount in bronchoalveolar washing was observed in investigated pathologies. Decrease of phagocytic activity in alcohol abuse and increase of phagocytic activity in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis were accompanied by decrease of phagocytosis efficiency.
