Functional aspect of studying phraseological units used in the works of V.P. Astafyev

Statement of the problem. The article examines the use of phraseological units in a fiction text, describes the main functions of phraseological units and their implementation in a fiction text. The purpose of the article is to identify and describe the functional features of phraseological units in the works of V.P. Astafyev. A review of scientific literature on the problem. Scientists agree that phraseological units are actively used in fiction because they are expressive, make the text brighter, richer, and more expressive. At the same time, the choice of a particular phraseological unit depends not only on the author’s intention, but also on the genre of the work. Methodology. The main method used is the functional-stylistic and semantic analysis of the literary text. Research results. Phraseological units in the narrow sense, belonging to the author’s speech, were taken for analysis. A significant part of phraseological units is related to the characteristics or description of what or who the author writes about. Among the phraseological units reflecting the author’s attitude to life, there are many expressions about poverty, about a hard life.
