Functioning of Yakut-Russian bilingualism in the modern communication space of industrial areas of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (based on field research)

The article discusses some factors influencing the development of the ethno- linguistic situation, issues of functioning of the languages of indigenous peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in a foreign cultural environment, intensive and long-term language contacts in the border areas, language competence, linguistic orientations, features of speech behavior, and ethnic identity of native language speakers - Sakha. There are various types of bilingualism in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), national-Russian bilingualism is one-sided, whereas the Yakut language is the language of interethnic communication for Evenks, Evens, Yukagirs and Dolgans. The language situation in the industrial regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has its own features, minority languages are used in interpersonal communication, in everyday life, in senile industry. The functional status of the Sakha language as the state language is limited to areas of communication between members of the Yakut and Evenki language communities.
