Functioning of a contrast statement within the framework of a dialogue text

Бесплатный доступ

Contrast statement is not always accompanied by speech acts, although their presence would be optimal within the framework of the current dialogue. Contrast statement may function independently, without additional speech acts to support it. However, such statements are not viewed as unsolvable by speakers. The contrast modeled by one or both participants of speech interaction is not always accompanied by the substantiation of contrasting position or the indication of a possible positive way out of the existing problem situation. In the context of dialogue interaction, the absence of substantiation of contrast and search for a way out of the existing situation which contrasts with the current one may be explained on the basis of functionality. Contrast can be used by one of the interlocutors for the purpose of coherent organization of dialogue text, as the speech means of shifting the focus of attention of dialogue partner to subsequent speech objects.
