Functioning of new developments in media texts: field notes

Problem statement. The emergence of new words is a natural phenomenon in the life of the information society. The base area, creating and retaining new growths, are a means of mass communication. The study of tumors in the media helps to identify trends in the development of the wordformation system, the main derivational processes. The purpose of this work is to consider the functioning of tumors in the texts of modern media in the aspect of active word-formation processes. Review of scientific literature on the problem. The problem of definition and structuring of neologisms is traditionally relevant in Russian linguistics, connected with the concept of the key word. These issues are reflected in the text of the article. Methodology (materials and methods. By random sampling from online publications “Russian reporter”, „Novaya Gazeta”, “Moskovsky Komsomolets”, „Arguments and Facts”, „Komsomolskaya Pravda” in the period from 2016 to April 2019 selected words-tumors. The methods of descriptive and comparative methods were used in the analysis. Research results. The analysis revealed that the tumors in the texts of modern media are created on the basis of keywords and borrowings, often represent hybrid words (consisting of Russian and foreign language morphemes), used to refer to the realities of modern society, expression and evaluation of statements. Conclusions in accordance with the purpose of the article. In the production of tumors, there are tendencies towards internationalization, expressivization, activation of word-formation means, which manifests itself in the production of adjectives and nouns, verbs, names of persons. New words form potential word-building nests. The author's contribution to the development of this problem is presented in the sections of the „Research results” and „Conclusions”.
