The study included women aged 18-35 (n = 91) who has been taking combined oral contraceptives (COCs) containing ethinylestradiol (30 mg) and drospipenone (3 mg) 12 cycles of 21 days with a 7-day break and 91 woman who has not been taking COCs. The vascular-platelet and coagulation link of hemostasis, lipid peroxidation and atnioxidant blood potential were estimated after the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th cycles. It was found that COC has changed the hemostasis already after the 1st cycle: at first the vascular-platelet link is activated and hemocoagulation changes occur later. All these changes take place along with the acceleration of lipid peroxidation and decreasing of antioxidant blood potential. Further investigation of mechanisms of these changes is required with the use of COCs and their correction with antioxidants.
Estrogens, progestogens, hemostasis, lipid peroxidation
