Gender difference in the use of Chinese compliments

The present investigation aims to find out the gender difference in the use of compliment strategies in Chinese. 15 boy students and 15 girl students in a Beijing university are randomly selectedwho are required to complete questionnaires. The girls use more direct (54%) and indirect (21%) compliments than the boys, who get 39% and 18% respectively, while the boys use more zero compliments (31%) and zero responses (12%) than the girls, who gel 23 % and 2% respectively. The explanatory factors include the psychological difference, socialization and distribution of power in society.
