The gender of the characters in the poetics of Susan Howe

In the following article entitled «The Gender of the Characters in the Poetics of Susan Howe» the author dwells upon the problem of gender manifestation of the characters. In her opinion it can be revealed through the characters' thoughts and actions under the suppression of some extreme situation. The author also regards concepts of «masculine» and «feminine» as referring to two types of space - the profane space of culture and the sacred one of wilderness. The space of wilderness is also treated as the motto which can stimulate gender self-identification of characters.
