Gender aspects of communication in Francophone game streaming

Бесплатный доступ

This article explores gender differences in communicative behavior among streamers on Francophone platforms such as Twitch and YouTube. Based on content and discourse analysis of 20 channels (both male- and female-hosted), it identifies key features of speech style, audience interaction, and viewer response. The findings show that male streamers tend to adopt a more aggressive and hierarchical communication style, while female streamers focus on engagement and maintaining a positive atmosphere. Audience reactions are often shaped by gender biases: female streamers face more harassment, sexualized comments, and higher performance expectations. The study highlights the impact of gender stereotypes on streaming communication and emphasizes the need for a more inclusive digital environment.
