Geological structure and conditions of quaternary deposits in northwest Russia

For the stratigraphic and genetic separation of the Quaternary deposits in the south of Arkhangelsk and in the north of Vologda regions lithological and palynological composition of sediments found in five boreholes was studied. As a result the depositional environment and mineralogical and petrographic features of Quaternary deposits were revealed. The data made it possible to prove the availability of four till horizons in the Neopleistocene section and also the glacial provinces associated with them. The presence of Ostashkov till at this territory was established. On the basis of the lithological parameters and palynologi- cal spectra, correlation of boreholes sections was conducted.
