Introduction . The article is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding diplomat, People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs Georgy Vasilyevich Chicherin (1872-1936), who laid the basic basic principles of international relations and diplomacy that allowed Russia (RSFSR / USSR) to act on the world stage in the twentieth century as a full participant in the international community. The credo of G.V. Chicherin's foreign policy course was unchanged: "The main content of our international policy, its first postulate, its first requirement is its deep desire for peace, its deeply peaceful character." In the modern conditions of the crisis of the system of international relations, it is relevant to turn to the historical lessons of overcoming complex contradictory processes of foreign policy development by the art of diplomacy. The achievements of the civilizational path traversed by Russia, including in the sphere of building international relations in the most difficult periods of history, are in many ways very instructive in the implementation of the modern concept of humanitarian security of the Russian Federation in the context of the confrontational course of world history in the 21th century. Methods. The article is mainly documentary in nature, the main provisions of Chicherin's foreign policy documents are analyzed - speeches, articles, interviews extracted from archival funds (RGASPI) and published in the periodical press of the 1920s. Chicherin owns the expression: "NKID needs documents like the Red Army needs cartridges". A systematic historical analysis of Chicherin's documentary heritage makes it possible to analyze the diplomatic activity of the People's Commissar for building various levels of relations between the RSFSR-USSR with the countries of Europe, Asia, and the United States in the foreign policy atmosphere of the 1920s, saturated with events of great historical significance.
