"God rest you, merry gentlemen": Ch. Dickens and R.Kipling

The article analyses intertextuality in «A Christmas carol in prose» by Charles Dickens, the poem «Russia to the Pacifists» by Rudyard Kipling and their mutual parent - a Christmas carol «God rest ye merry, gentlemen...». In his depiction of Russian revolution and Civil war as a horrible catastrophe Kipling quotes the old Christmas carol ironically, but he follows Dickens's tradition to represent Christmas-time as the period for obligatory help to the suffering people.
