Hodonyms and agoronyms of the old town of Stockholm: nomination and cultural-historical information

The author conducts a study of a segment of the toponymic system of the Swedish language, namely the hodonyms and agoronyms of the Old Town of Stockholm, with the nomenclaturecomponents gata ʻstreetʼ and torg ʻsquareʼ. The relevance of the article is determined mainly by the importance of a systematic study of place names in the Swedish language and their linguistic and cultural specifics. The purpose of the work is to study the nomination means and determine the cultural and historical information of toponymic units. The chosen object of research is considered in lexicological and cultural perspectives. The first part of the article presents the structural and semantic features of the selected units. Afterwards, the same names are subjected to a cultural description, namely, from the point of view of their cultural and historical content. The article uses common scientific and linguistic methods that correspond to the specified goal. In some cases, the method of linguistic and regional commentary is applied to the material processing. The research results may be of interest to specialists in the field of linguistics and cultural studies, lecturers of the Swedish language, graduate students and students of linguistic and cultural areas of study.
