The 2015-2016 excavations provided an opportunity to examine an edgeof the timber and earth wall erected right on the slope of the site facing the Oka River.The excavations revealed a hole which probably represents remains of an escarp (or a moat),possibly, created in the middle of the 14th century when the fortification of the Rostislavl'citadel was reconstructed and substantially reinforced.
