The article examines the new priorities of state policy and the training of history teachers for 21st-century schools. The author demonstrates that history education in both secondary and higher education is significantly influenced by changes aligned with political requirements embodied in state mandates and public expectations. The conclusion is substantiated that the first modernization of general history education in Russia took place in the 1990s-2000s but had exhausted its potential by the late 2000s. In the context of new geopolitical, informational, and sociocultural challenges, the need arose for a new (second) modernization of history education, which began in the mid-2010s. The priorities of the second modernization of history education in Russia included the reformatting of the system based on traditional Russian values, the reorientation of history education towards the objectives of patriotic education of students, and the formation of an all-Russian civic identity. It is argued that the training of history teachers for Russian schools in the 21st century should be reconsidered in light of the new priorities of state policy in the field of education. The new priorities of Russian state policy in the field of education have determined the relevance of value-targeted, structural, and content transformation of the system for training history teachers as the most significant direction of higher pedagogical education in terms of ideology, politics, and spiritual and moral aspects.
