The article is devoted to the importance of the humanitarian environment of an engineering and technical university as one of the most important factors of sustainable development of society. It is the teaching of humanities that contributes to the formation of motivation for work among future engineers and the education of patriotism in them. Therefore, the training of an engineer in demand on the labor market, who has differentiated knowledge, is impossible without the humanization and humanization of technical education as a factor in overcoming technocratic thinking. Humanization not only predetermines practice, but also relies on it. From this point of view, the declarative replacement of humanism with "transhumanism" means nothing more than borrowing someone elses concepts of development. The presence of humanism is not only a matter of being and consciousness of a modern person, but also that sociocultural lever, using which managers are able to ensure agreement between people, as well as to obtain confirmation of the fidelity of the management strategy. The article summarizes the results of historical and sociological research of different years concerning the problems of higher technical education, as well as analyzes and interprets the results of secondary historical and sociological research.
