Статья научная
Introduction. The introduction outlines the author’s reasoning about the influence of various factors on the personality development of one of the most remarkable American women of her era – Lou Henry Hoover. The purpose of the study is to analyze this process through her upbringing, education, and the development of her key character traits. Methods and materials. The methodology of this study relies on both general scientific and specialized methods of historical research – primarily the historical-biographical, retrospective, and historicalsystemic approaches, along with elements of the comparative-historical method. The research is grounded in the principles of historicism and historical objectivity. The materials used in this study include archival documents; memoirs; scholarly monographs and articles; biographical essays, as well as resources from the two main research centers dedicated to the 31st U.S. President Herbert Hoover and his family – the Hoover Presidential Library and Museum (West Branch, Iowa) and the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace (Stanford University, Palo Alto, California) – in addition to various online resources. Analysis. The analysis section presents the main part of the article, covering family upbringing and education as well as the stages of the future First Lady’s development – her formation of key character traits and her intellectual growth during childhood and adolescence. Archival materials are cited as examples, including essays by young Lou Henry, which reveal her worldview and distinctive personality traits. The author demonstrates the soundness of Lou Henry’s choice of future specialty, along with the characteristics of her mentality and civic outlook. Results. The results of the study are presented in the author’s conclusions. It is argued that the personal development of Lou Henry Hoover was shaped by a combination of external factors (environment, genetics, education, and culture) and internal factors (motivation, ambition, experience, and intelligence), and unfolded through several key stages connected to her early biography.
