The famous researcher of folk culture M. Bakhtin believes that any production is “a very important primary form of culture”. The holiday culture consists of the culture of the game, the culture of the word, the culture of movement, the culture of musical sound, the culture of fashion, costume, etiquette, custom, ritual, in a word, from a combination of different cultures. S. Shmakov especially notes that for children the holiday is always an outstanding event, always fun, triumph, pleasant time - spending time and, of course, a break in the monotony of the teachings. "Maybe only children keenly feel the philosophy of each holiday, chosen by generations ?!". For children, the holiday is related to the game of nature and the nature of the game; it has eternal components of the game: a major tone (style), turning off everyday life, an established territorial space, temporary boundaries, rules and freedoms, a magical "as if".
Any well-written children's holiday, "entertaining, teaches ...". The harmony of play and teaching is the magic power of festive art. It has long been known: the child knows the world by playing. The game as a mandatory component of the holiday encourages children to work "for real". This is especially true for primary school age, where playing activity occupies an important place in the knowledge of the surrounding world. A child everywhere must be himself. And on the holiday too.
Therefore, it is necessary to compose and spend holidays according to the rules of a children's game. And holidays love the unusualness of personal expression, the installation on creativity, imagery, ritualism, carnival, fabulousness, costume, surprise, improvisation, folk color, emotionality, etc. etc. And most importantly, for the opportunity to "show yourself and see others. "A holiday - real, traditional or innovative - is an active phenomenon. “A holiday is an integral system of artistic images” notes the researcher of children's holidays G. Black. The significance of holidays, especially for children, cannot be overestimated, because, first of all, they are part of the spiritual heritage of the people, of its purest sources of creativity - rituals, rituals, traditions, etc. Secondly, holidays are the sphere of versatile creative cooperation of children between children and adults in the process of preparing and holding a holiday. Thirdly, holidays are the brightest events of life, certain social frontiers, milestones, perspectives that are oriented, waiting.
The behavior of holidays in the study of English contributes to the formation of communication skills and familiarity with the most important elements of the cultural traditions of English-speaking countries. For example, the holiday “Day of All Mothers”, which is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This is a kind of gratitude to moms for their care and love. The history of this holiday is as follows: the American Anna Jarvis annually honored the memory of her mother on the day of her death (in early May). In 1914, the American Congress declared Mother’s Day an official holiday. American children, as a sign of love, give their mothers red carnations.
Papugina OV in the article “Scenario of the holiday “Mother’s Day” notes:“ This extracurricular event is held in the second grade of schools with indepth study of the English language. The holiday is recommended to be held in the second half ...The holiday is accompanied by musical numbers, skits, etc. (at the discretion of each teacher).
Two weeks before the holiday, the children receive the following tasks: come up with costumes for the participants of the scenes, write an essay - a story on the theme “My Favorite Toy” (the essay is performed on an album sheet with a picture of a favorite toy: all the works are exhibited at the holiday for public viewing). This is the second holiday, and compared to the first holiday (“The Primer of the Primer”), it is held entirely in English. In his other article, the author proposes the development of another important New Year Comes holiday in English-speaking countries.
“This extracurricular event is held on the eve of the New Year ... We begin preparing for the holiday in 2-3 months. We learn poems, songs, a piece “Cinderrlla”, think over and prepare costumes, gifts for Santa Claus children, decorate the hall with Christmas tree with toys ... ”. L.A. Bulaeva proposes the development of the Halloween festival and draws attention to the fact that the preparation process is no less fascinating than the holiday itself, which, as we know, is celebrated on October 31.
“During the month, during the lessons of the English language, the children get acquainted with the legends, customs, traditions and superstitions related to this holiday, learn poems, words of the liver and plays. At singing lessons, students pick up the musical arrangement of the evening. In the drawing classes, fifth- and sixth-graders prepare small square business cards with the generally accepted symbols of this day: a pumpkin, a witch, a skeleton, a spider, and other “wickedness”. These business cards are distributed to the participants of the evening, which makes it easier to summarize the various competitions”.
