The article traces the ideological originality of the Gospel of Matthew: the original vision of the problem of messianism distinguishes it against the background of the common synoptic tradition. The words and deeds of Merciful Christ, the Son of Man, are at the center of the Gospel narrative; His meekness and humility reveal the messianic ideal of the Christian community to which Matthew’s gospel is addressed. The historical and theological research presented in the final paragraphs of the article makes it possible to draw important conclusions about the relevance and theologicalpragmatic potential of the evangelical concept of messianism, including conclusions in the context of the patristic tradition.
