The artistic originality of Ch.T. Aitmatov's novels “Cassandra's tavro” and “When the mountains fall (eternal bride)”

The article considers the artistic features of the works of the Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov, analyzes the history of translations and research of his works. The evolution of the author’s style is traced: from the psychologism of early stories to a deep moral and philosophical understanding of reality in later works. The authors note that the novel “Cassandra’s Tavro” differs significantly from all previous works of the writer in its cosmic scale and appeal to the global problems of the modern world, full of tragic events, disasters and catastrophes. The novel reveals three сenters (Russian, American, cosmic), the opposition of Cosmos and Chaos, as well as archetypal images of natural elements, animals and birds, with the help of which the writer expresses fear for the future of mankind. The authors revealed that in the novel “When the Mountains Fall (Eternal Bride)” the writer actualizes parables, legends, science fiction, and the image is built in two planes: horizontal (Man - animal world - mythological worlds) and vertical (Earth - Sky - Space). Attention is focused on the fact that, despite the difference in the themes and problems of the works, Aitmatov remains true to the principles of depicting the main characters - truth-seekers and maximalists. And although in most of the works the ending is tragic, nevertheless, the writer’s works are optimistic and inspire hope for positive changes in society in the future. An analysis of Aitmatov’s latest novels shows that they are distinguished by universalism, the interweaving of myth with reality, and the depth of philosophical understanding of reality. In his works, he not only refers to history, mythology, folklore, fantasy, but also connects the world problems of our time with the life of his native village.
