The analysis undertaken in this article is aimed at revealing the hidden deeper meanings, which in its turn leads to a better understanding of the most significant and specific features of the poet’s outlook. It implies the new approach. In terms of the plot structure such central oppositions as sleep - awakening, freedom - slavery, light - dark were revealed. The article examines the ways of their use in the text. The article also analyses the semantics of the artistic images on the symbolic, mythical and biblical levels. It has been established, that thanks to two main groups of allegorical figures an ambivalent image of England is created, where under the cover of a strict law one can find a real anarchy, which corrupts the society inside, provokes political confrontation, bears moral chaos and leads the country to death. According to the conclusions, the main idea of the poem is the idea of salvation, which is embodied in the image of Freedom, the way to which lies through Peace (as the opposition to war or violence of any kind) and it is possible only with the help of Hope, Love and Wisdom, the same moral values as in Christian Philosophy. A special role in the plot is played by Shape as a unique combination of natural and mystical phenomena, opposing evil. On the other hand, Disturbance-Anarchy synonymous to Chaos is opposite to Freedom without which neither Beauty nor Harmony can exist. And according to Shelly it is Beauty and Harmony that should dominate in nature, society and in the soul of every person.
