As is known, Pasternak was engaged in philosophy and turned to the works of many thinkers who had a profound infl uence on his worldview and self-awareness. One of the most signifi cant ideas of philosophy of the 19th – 20th centuries is the idea of “all-unity” by Vl. Solov’ev. It can be said that she defi ned the Russian philosophical and religious thought of that time and was undoubtedly known to Pasternak, who often used this concept when talking about his novel. In a letter to J. de Proyart on May 20, 1959, speaking about the novel “Doctor Zhivago”, Pasternak writes: “I have always had a sense of the unity of everything that exists, the connectedness of everything that lives, moves, passes and appears, of all existence and life in general.” If we consider the novel as a work that cannot be explored outside of the Russian religious thought of the 19th – 20th centuries, then it is necessary to show how the idea of “unity” is embodied in it. This work is devoted to the study of how the idea of “unity”, belonging to Vladimir Solov’ev, is embodied in the artistic world of Boris Pasternak’s novel “Doctor Zhivago”. The fi rst part of the article examines how the idea of “unity” manifests itself in the structure of the novel. The second part explores the question of how the ideas of “oneness” and God-manhood are embodied in the novel in connection with such concepts as “personality” and love. The article compares fragments from the works of Vladimir Solovyov, in which the Russian philosopher speaks about his understanding of “all-unity”, with fragments of the text of the novel. The purpose of the study is to show how the idea of unity is realized in the novel and in what ways it is similar or not similar to the idea of Vladimir Solov’ev.
