S. T. Aksakov's idyll «a fisherman's misfortune» in the historical and literary context

The article shows that turning to the antic genre and having given its due to the sentimentalist tradition, Aksakov (in his «Russian idyll» «A Fisherman's Misfortune»), on the one hand, achieves the grandeur and simplicity of Homer in his descriptions, on the other hand, appears as the most original Russian writer possessing such know&ledge of nature's ways and such ability to poeticize fishing, that no one in that time, and even in the subsequent times possessed.
