Verkhneudinsk merchants'' Names in the names of Ulan-Ude streets

The article is devoted to the description of memorial names of intracity objects in the aspect of their values for history, culture and study of local history. Historically Ulan-Ude (Verkhneudinsk) arose as the trade, merchant city therefore the names of Ulan-Ude streets are also considered in the connection with public work of Verkhneudinsk merchants. In the article the main structures of the city's central part are described, former (historical), and also modern names of the streets are recorded. Historical names act as existential reference points in society development and also carry out functions on culture preservation and maintenance of generations' historical memory. The data of the Buryat Republic National archive (funds of Verkhneudinsky town council and autobiographical memoirs of M. V. Tansky), and also local history sources have been used for article writing.
