The article examines the category of «imitation of criminal behavior» as one of the primary resources for operational search activities, in relation to the norms of operational-search legislation in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Lithuania, as well as the criminal laws of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, and the Russian criminal procedural law.
