Information as a key driver of business-model innovation in digital transformation

The article examines different approaches to the definition of digitalization and also considers key growth drivers of companies in terms of digital economy. Moreover, based on relationship between the type of a business model and profitability of a company, we suggest data as the main asset in digital economy. The authors systematized the main benefits of data management for companies, namely: their capability to provide competitive advantage, raise the quality of the decision-making process, increase the operational efficiency of the business through reducing the cost of delivery and storage of materials, and increasing the profitability of sales. The factors impacting the company's ability to manage information are identified, further fields of research in assessing their impact are indicated. Also, the authors suggest to consider issues in the field of data management at enterprises. A new-for-business was problem identified: financial management in terms of digital economy - the lack of transparent methods for presenting data in accounting and financial accounting, as well as the related problems of financial analysis, including overestimated return on assets, distortion of financial stability indicators and distortion of business valuation.
