The article examines the prospects for the development of information technologies in criminal proceedings, gives their proper assessment in relation to the main provisions of the principle of procedural economy. It is argued that there is a need for a large-scale reform on the digitalization of criminal procedural relations, which adequately meets modern realities. An inevitable change in the ideological paradigm and the associated transition from the priority of public interests in the implementation of criminal prosecution to high-quality digital remote provision of public services to citizens who have applied for help to law enforcement agencies in connection with a crime committed against them is predicted. Information technologies will significantly change the external procedural side of criminal proceedings. In this case, one should take into account the main provisions (requirements) of the principle of procedural economy, in particular rationality, simplicity, speed, validity and sufficiency when making certain changes to the procedural form. All this determines the rationality and justification of the introduction of new technologies into the criminal process.
