The author considers the reasons for the need to improve a foreign language sociocultural competence of cadets of Russian Federal Penal Service educational institutions. The author examines the nature and content of the foreign language sociocultural competence, which is a component of a communicative competence. The article presents the components of the foreign language sociocultural competence. The author emphasizes the need to form the foreign-language sociocultural competence of cadets of Russian Federal Penal Service educational institutions as the ability to establish and keep communication contacts with representatives of different cultures, perceive and understand their behavior patterns.
