The objective of the paper is to review the main topics and results of the international conference ‘Languages in medical education’. The author indicates three areas of research and practice concerning languages and medicine: humanitarian issues in medical education, linguistic aspects and pedagogical approaches to current healthcare discourse and clinical communication in non-Anglophone settings. The paper summarizes the results of the discussion, i.e. languages’ contribution to professional medical training, the need of liberal arts’ integration into academic curricular of medical universities and further applied linguistic and EMP research in the framework of medical linguistics.
