The article considers mentoring as a well-known form of work with young employees, in Soviet times mainly focused on ideological and political, patriotic and labor education of young people at industrial enterprises. It is noted that market-economy conditions make adjustments to this process, which requires scientific analysis and comprehension for its successful implementation. In modern socio-economic conditions, the institutionalization of mentoring is due to the objective social need for accelerated professional socialization of young employees against the background of obvious dysfunction of educational institutions that do not fully ensure the formation of professional skills of graduates of colleges and universities. The article identifies a number of contradictions that are significant for institutionalization: between the social needs for increasing the professionalism of employees, their adaptability to changing social and labor relations and the level of development of mentoring values, the lack of understanding and interiorization of the idea of mentoring; between the efforts of public authorities to introduce mentoring practices and the lack of their regulation at the level of socio-economic organization.
