The relevance of the topic of direct democracy institutions in Russia is growing significantly. Their role is very important, because with their help the population forms government bodies that implement policies in various areas of society and the state. In this study, we highlight the main institutions of direct democracy that exist in our country, their classification, advantages and disadvantages in order to most fully consider the path of their development, while relying on the opinions of famous Russian and foreign scientists. I would also like to note that the institutions of direct democracy unite the country's population into a single whole, since the people make decisions independently and in the role of a collective, single entity.
