Inversion as the means of intensifying the pragmatic aspect of an utterance in modern English language

The article examines not only the problem of the phenomenon of the inverted word order in modern English language, but also the classification of the types of inversions. Attention is paid to the dependence between the type of inversion and modeling the cognitive activity of the reader. Another focus of attention is the emphasis on the emotional aspect of literary work, the personality and psychological state of characters, through the contextual isolation of an element of the utterance. The article touches upon the issue of inversion being tied to pragmatic function in the modern English literary language. The pragmatic function involves the isolation of one of the elements of an utterance in logial aspect or the isolation of the whole utterance in general and emotional aspects. The work analyzes the various pragmatic functions of inversion based on the examples from the works of modern authors.
